Service Description
The aim of this course is to prepare students for the Chartered Governance Institute Foundation Programme exam on 17th November 2025. This is an online, interactive, exam technique focused, student centric study & revision course. The course is delivered by Buff Cooper over 8 weeks with sessions on Wednesday evenings from 5.00pm to 6.30pm and Saturdays from 9.00am to 10.30am. The course starts on Wednesday 24th September 2025 and finishes on Saturday 15th November 2025. The programme provides a broad introduction to businesses, how they are governed, maintained and financially managed and the laws to which they must adhere. The knowledge and skills you will gain through this programme will also help prepare you to meet the demands of Part One of the Qualifying programme, the next stage in the path to becoming a fully qualified governance professional. The develops students understanding of the following areas: Part one – Introducing the Business Environment – 10% This part provides an overview of how organisations are structured and managed and how the external environment affects business activities and influences decision making. Part two – Introduction to Law – 35% This part provides an introduction to business law, including its purposes, administration, and sources. In order to fully understand the law and identify which areas of the law are most applicable to businesses, it is important to understand where laws come from, the different types of laws that exist (and how they interrelate), and how the law is administered and applied. Part three – Principles of Company Compliance and Administration – 25% This part examines the historical origins of modern company law and introduces the legal process that has to be followed to create a corporate entity or company (known as incorporation). It will also cover the administration side of incorporation and the obligation for companies to be transparent when providing information about their activities and financial status. Part four – Introduction to Finance and Accounting – 30% This part introduces the components of financial documentation and the principles of financial decision-making. It provides an overview of basic accounting terms and concepts and examines the importance of financial reporting. It then covers how financial statements and reports can be analysed to help inform the decision-making activities of both internal and external stakeholders, such as management and investors.
