Course Decription

The aim of this course is to prepare students for the Chartered Governance Institute Foundation Programme exam on Monday 16th November 2026. The "Mentored" programme is for students who wish to study at their own pace. Students have access to 20 two hour recordings of last semesters weekly live online “Immersive” classes which they can watch at their own pace. These recordings cover all aspects of the syllabus in detail. In addition, online learning resources which focus on key subject areas and most importantly how to pass the exam. Students have their own private tutor to help them develop exam technique through marked homework assignments. The course finishes with a two day live online "Bootcamp" covering exam technique, live practice questions and revisiting the key aspects of the syllabus. Please email info@strategictutors.co.uk for details The course covers the following areas: Part one – Introducing the Business Environment – 10% Overview of how organisations are structured and managed and how the external environment affects business activities and influences decision making. Part two – Introduction to Law – 35% Introduction to business law, including its purposes, administration, and sources. In order to fully understand the law and identify which areas of the law are most applicable to businesses, it is important to understand where laws come from, the different types of laws that exist (and how they interrelate), and how the law is administered and applied. Part three – Principles of Company Compliance and Administration – 25% The historical origins of modern company law and introduces the legal process that has to be followed to create a corporate entity or company (known as incorporation). It will also cover the administration side of incorporation and the obligation for companies to be transparent when providing information about their activities and financial status. Part four – Introduction to Finance and Accounting – 30% Components of financial documentation and the principles of financial decision-making. It provides an overview of basic accounting terms and concepts and examines the importance of financial reporting. It then covers how financial statements and reports can be analysed to help inform the decision-making activities of both internal and external stakeholders, such as management and investors.
